Rep. Spano on $3 Trillion Bill
Democrats Call for Another Round of New Spending
Lakeland, May 13, 2020
Lakeland, FL – Today, U.S. Representative Ross Spano (R-FL) released the following statement after Speaker Pelosi, alongside House Democrats, unveiled an 1,800+ page bill titled the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act. The bill, which is expected to be up for vote on Friday, calls for $3 Trillion dollars of new spending under the auspices of COVID-19 emergency spending:
“The mindset of ‘never letting a crisis go to waste’ is absolutely despicable and not a way to govern. Speaker Pelosi presented a bill which she knows has zero chance of becoming law. Instead of wasting time on political brinkmanship, the Speaker should call the House back into session and let us get to work.” said Spano. “Congress and the Trump Administration have offered historic aid to help Americans, small businesses and support the true heroes in the fight against COVID-19, our frontline workers. Using a public health emergency as an excuse to fulfill Democrats ideological wish-list, is simply inexcusable.”
The bill calls for $1 Trillion to bailout cities and states that have been fiscally irresponsible and have mismanaged taxpayers’ dollars. “There is no reason why Floridians should have to bailout poorly managed cities like Detroit or states like California,” added Spano.
Items in the bill that have no direct connection to COVID-19 include: Bailing out the USPS and its mismanaged pension plan, opening PPP Loans to registered lobbyists and their clients, changing election laws, suspending SALT tax deductions for certain states and providing debt collectors a federal bailout by establishing a federal credit facility.
